Do you want to be a bouting member of the Renegade Roller Derby banked track league?
How it all goes down

Regular Tryouts

The Renegade Roller Derby will be holding regular league tryouts on the last Thursday of each month from 6:00 pm til 7:30 pm. That will be June 24th this month. This tryout is for freshmeat skaters, experienced flat track skaters, people interested in being a gaming official, and people interested in being part of the support staff. Click here to go over to our contact page. Select joining as the topic and include your info. We will let you know the details and requirements at that time.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

The Renegade Roller Derby of Oregon is a co-ed league.
You must be at least 18 years old to be a member of the Renegades and willing to learn and have fun. Also you must be able to affirm that you are in good physical condition and do not suffer from any health condition or disability that would prevent or limit your participation in a full contact sport or increase susceptibility of injury.

WHAT HAPPENS AT TRYOUTS?

Try outs are on a flat surface.
Please come prepared. You may want to show up a few minutes early in some comfortable work out apparel. Also it’s a good idea to bring a water bottle. You will need to bring a $7.00 application fee and your ID to prove that you are at least 18. You will also need to fill out paperwork. We will have some loaner gear available, (quad skates, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards, and helmets) but if you have any of that gear bring it with you. There is no need for you to go out and buy gear prior to tryouts, but if you’d like to, you could go to Aspect Skate Shop (locally owned by a Renegade member) http://www.aspectshop.com/
You will be interviewed by the tryout committee and have a chance to ask questions. It is important to know that we are not just looking at your skating skills, but at your character and ability to be a team player, and commitment to being a part of a league. Regardless of the league being structured into teams, we are always league first, and the needs of the league come before teams . We will also assess you basic skating skills and asses your ability to follow directions. We will teach you some very basic stops, starts, rolls, and falls.

We do not allow any spectators, including pets at tryouts. The only people there will be others who are trying out and the tryout committee.

NOW WHAT?

Within a week, you will receive a phone call, letting you know that you are welcome to join the Renegade family. You now need to go out and get some gear. (we will let you know what is the appropriate gear to get, but expect to spend at least $300) You will be required to pay an annual administration fee of $50, and monthly dues of $40. (The membership fee is year round.)
Congratulations, you are now a voting member of the league.

Level 1 Fresh Meat

You will be required to attend Fresh Meat practices and meet attendance requirements. Everyone stays in Fresh Meat for at least 1 month, regardless of his or her skill. Only training staff can pass you to the next level.

Level 2

NOW YOU PICK A NAME!
You need to pick a skater name that you want to go with. Join this Yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/roller_girls/ and check the files section for the most recent master roster to make sure your name is original.

In order to advance you must pay monthly dues, meet attendance requirements, and join a league committee. Everyone stays in Level two for at least 1 month. Only training staff can pass you to the next level.

Level 3

You will be drafted to a team. Remember we are league first. You will not have final say in what team you end up on. You still are required to pay dues and meet attendance requirements. Also it will be your responsibility to purchase a team uniform.
